Explore more with the Edison robot
Edison offers hours of fun and engaging STEM learning activities for kids at every stage of their robotics and computer science journey. These activity resources can be used on their own or in addition to the lesson plans designed for using Edison in the classroom setting.
Build, create and invent
Enrich your kids’ STEM education experience through interactive engineering and programming projects by using Edison together with LEGO bricks.
Edison works with any LEGO brick compatible building system, including the EdCreate robot creator’s kit, which lets you create an incredible range of programmable robotic projects. Use EdCreate to build 5 different projects, invent solutions to open-ended design challenges or make your own incredible creation!
Kick-start your exploration of Edison with barcodes
The special Edison robot barcodes let you kick-start your exploration of Edison using pre-set programs, control Edison like a remote-control car, or create your own remote-control programming masterpieces!
Barcode programming is a great place to get started with Edison which is why barcodes are included as an early activity in all of the Edison lesson plans. Using barcodes with Edison robots is one of the most unique and fun ways to use your robot. Even if you are brand new to Edison, getting started with barcodes is easy. Barcodes let anyone get started with Edison — no matter your coding experience!
Get engaged with the activity mat
The EdMat activity mat is an A1 size (23in x 33in) mat perfect for getting started with Edison and for ongoing use as a test mat for all your Edison creations and programs.
The free-to-download EdMat is designed to make running robot activities such as line following and bounce in borders with Edison simple to set up and loads of fun. The EdMat includes six barcodes that activate pre-installed programs including ‘follow a torch’, ‘line tracking’ and ‘sumo wrestle’. Using EdMats in the classroom makes it easy to set up ‘robot testing stations’ for students to try out their programs.
Hour of Code activities using the Edison robot
We believe that robotics are for everyone.
That’s why we are proud to offer a range of activities featured in the Hour of Code’s ‘Robotics and Circuits’ lessons. The ‘Hour of Code™’ is a nationwide initiative by Computer Science Education Week and Code.org to introduce millions of students to one hour of computer science and computer programming.
These activities will help you make a tangible Hour of Code for students of any age and skill level using Edison robots!
Edison robot design challenges
Open-ended projects. Engineering challenges. Project-based learning (PBL) activities of every shape and size. (Not to mention the occasional contest!)
No matter what you call them, these classroom-ready, hands-on problem-solving activities offer awesome opportunities for students to explore a range of skills across maths, science, critical thinking, engineering, design thinking and more.
