Hi everyone, I want edison to continue to move about on a white surface that has a black line boundary. I want it to 'look' for a light source and when it finds the light source, play some sounds and flash some lights a few times. I thought this would do it:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1h3OKNBvKrTj2nNKccQoDK1HacXzj_eJx/view?usp=sharing

But edison moves forward, hits the black line, reverses, turns, moves forward, hits the black line again then stops.

It does detect the light at this point if I flash a torch at it.

I want it to keep 'hunting' until it finds the light.

I dont understand why it doesnt do it.

Thanks in advance!!

Hi Craig,

To my understanding, this is hard to achieve in EdBlocks due to the nature that there are no "IF" blocks.

From the code that you are showing the reason it stops is that it hits those "Wait until light detected" blocks and never received a light. Those blocks will make the Edison stop and just wait until the condition is met.

If you wish to make this program work I would recommend using EdScratch as that enables "IF" blocks.

Thanks Issac. I thought that was the case. I was hoping the 'wait' was more like an 'if'.

In the demo "Obstacle avoidance' the 'wait' block works more like an 'if' block. Drive, if there is an obstacle then avoid it by backing and turning.

The edison does not stop and wait.edison

An 'if' block would be handy!!!

Hi Craig,

That is very understandable. An 'IF' block is very useful for programming however it does open up programming to be quite a lot more difficult. As EdBlocks is designed for the younger audience we have set some limitations like that. If you want to unlock more potential I would recommend trying EdSratch.

Heads up

The Australian Federal Parliament has passed a law that extends goods and services tax (GST) to low value imports of physical goods imported by consumers from 1 July 2018.

This means that all customers purchasing Edison robots and accessories with an Australian shipping address must now pay GST. The GST will be automatically added to your purchase and show as a line item on your invoice.

We've detected that you are in Australia, so we wanted to let you know that we have changed your settings to view our Australian site, which displays GST inclusive pricing.
