Hello Edison community,

I am a owner of 2 Edison V1 robots from the first Kickstarter campaign. I used them years ago with Edware.

But now my kid and I would like to play with them again.

First of all, I cannot find any serial number on my edison even in the batteries compartment. Is there a new firmware for the V1 ? how can I have this firmware without any serial number ?

Then, I have tried to use the new (maybe not very new, right now) web app like EdBlock or EdScratch : the download seems to work but Edison still continue to execute my last program and doesn’t take in account of the downloaded program.

I have found the web app for Edware and the download works fine and the program made is well executed. So i conclude that the download process through IR works fine.

I know there are some limitations due to the wheel motor.

Thank for your help

Laurent

PS : sorry for my english but you know, french people and the foreign languages … 😉

Hi Laurent,

I’m very sorry, but unfortunately your Edison’s hardware is not compatible with the firmware update required to be programmed with EdPy, EdScratch or EdBlocks.

Your Edison is from our first commercial batch of Edison robots. Since that time, Edison has come a long way. We have made iterative changes in each manufacturing batches to improve Edison (including an upgrade to the firmware chip), and major improvements in the Edison V2.0 update ( https://meetedison.com/meet-edison-v2-0/ ).

As you have found, your robot can continue to be programmed using EdWare.

However, we are truly grateful to you for being a part of the beginning of our journey to make robotics for everyone. To thank you, we would like to offer you a special 5% discount to upgrade to the latest Edison V2.0. If you would like to use this discount, please send us a message on our contact us form.

You can still update your current Edison with the August 2015 firmware if you have not already done so (which provides improved barcode reading and some small bug fixes). To access that firmware update, please head over to the firmware checker https://meetedison.com/firmware-update/ and use this serial number: Edison 2015G-10101. Follow the steps as normal.

If you encounter any issues or if there is anything else I can help you with, please use the Contact Us form to let me know and I’ll be happy to help.

ps. No need to apologise for your English, it is very clear and easy to understand.

Hi Adrian,

Thank you for your answer. That’s clear. I will continue to use Edware but maybe I will take a look to the Edison V2 because I am interested to EdScratch for my son/EdBlock for my daughter.

I don’t remember if I have already updated the firmware. I will check that.

Heads up

The Australian Federal Parliament has passed a law that extends goods and services tax (GST) to low value imports of physical goods imported by consumers from 1 July 2018.

This means that all customers purchasing Edison robots and accessories with an Australian shipping address must now pay GST. The GST will be automatically added to your purchase and show as a line item on your invoice.

We've detected that you are in Australia, so we wanted to let you know that we have changed your settings to view our Australian site, which displays GST inclusive pricing.
