Hi all

My daughter got an Edison for Christmas and has worked her way through EdBlocks and EdScratch programming over the past few days without any issue

Now she is working on EdPy it appears her Edison will not enter programming mode – when you press the circle button it appears the Edison switches off and pressing any other button does not appear to do anything. The only way to resolve it is to switch the Edison off and on again but when you press the circle button the same thing happens again

Has anyone else experienced this or know of a solution or reason for this happening??

Many thanks

This sounds like Edison is getting stuck in the programming mode.

When Edison enters programming mode it starts looking for light input from the EdComm cable, once it sees an input it turns the lights off so that they can be flashed in time with the incoming data. It then locks into programming mode until it detects an “End of program”.

So if you press the round button once and Edison sees a large spike in light on the line sensor it locks into programming mode. The sun, being very very close to a light bulb (~20cm) and light from the EdComm cable can give Edison a large enough light level.

Are you attempting to program Edison outside, near a large window or in a room flooded with natural light?

That’s for the reply Ben

Yes she is trying to program it in the living room which in the morning is flooded with light. I will give it a try this evening and see if that helps the situation

Heads up

The Australian Federal Parliament has passed a law that extends goods and services tax (GST) to low value imports of physical goods imported by consumers from 1 July 2018.

This means that all customers purchasing Edison robots and accessories with an Australian shipping address must now pay GST. The GST will be automatically added to your purchase and show as a line item on your invoice.

We've detected that you are in Australia, so we wanted to let you know that we have changed your settings to view our Australian site, which displays GST inclusive pricing.
