Yes, you absolutely can!

The relevant function you need to use is Ed.ReadRemote() . To see more tips how to get this working, while you are in the EdPyApp, look up this function in the right side documentation panel.

Make sure you first program the Edison to recognise each remote code you press. This is in the code printout – https://meetedison.com/content/Edison-robot-barcodes.pdf

e.g. run the edison over the barcode then press the remote control button you want to assign to it.  Then in your program it will recognise the button. kissedison

I have a question. I went through the barcodes for remote and at fist set one button of remote for one driving code. Later I wrote a program, where I have different instructions for some IR codes. But if I scan a programmable commands and try program it still use original driving instructions? I also try above mentioned program, but it  for code #1 drive bakcward and for #2 turn right?

The problem was strange for me.So I look at the barcodes and they are similar for driving control and programmable commands. Is it wrong set of instructions? For example I have the same barcode for drive Backwards and remote control code #1  as well as drive forward and remote code #0 ??

Can you help me please?

Hi Petr,

Yes, I can help you with this.

Firstly, well done spotting that the control barcodes are the same for the driving directions and the code # for use in EdPy, but do not worry, this is not wrong or a problem.

The reason is that the direction driving responses will only happen while the robot is in ‘idle mode’ – ie no program running on the robot – which you can recognise as the robot’s LEDs are flashing alternately. And the control code responses will only happen while a program IS running (the LEDs will be off, unless you have programmed them otherwise). Because the driving and number codes are active at different times, they can use the same barcodes.

So, since you are still seeing the driving responses in your robot, this means your EdPy program is not running at this time, for some reason.

One simple thing it could be is that you must press the triangle button to start your EdPy program first.

Another possible cause, that is much less obvious, is that your EdPy program may be finishing too early. Your EdPy program needs to be checking for remote commands inside of a loop, otherwise the program could easily start and finish in a microsecond, too fast for us humans to even see. Have a look in this example program for an example of a ‘while true’ loop which makes the program run until the stop button is pressed: http://www.edpyapp.com/share/e9s8m

Simple explanation, that helps me a lot. I did not realize the difference of modes and it indication by LEDs.
