Hey,

I am working on ‘Detect Obstacle’ icon.

According to the books, the Edison has 2 IR sensors, left and right. When you use the ‘Event wait’ icon in combination with ‘Detect Obstacles’, you have 4 options:

  • Obstacles at front
  • Obstacles at left
  • Obstacles at right
  • Any obstacle detected

When ‘Obstacle in front’ is selected, I guess both IR sensors are activated. But what happened when ‘Any obstacle detected’ is selected?

I have try both options and I noticed that the Edison’s reaction differs. Are there more IR sensors in the Edison at the back?

If not, then what does it actually happen?

Thanks in advance,

Dem

Hi

The difference between ‘Obstacle in front’ and ‘Any obstacle detected’ is how they combine the signal from the left and right sensors.

‘Obstacle in front’ only occurs when both the left and right sensors see an obstacle at the same time

‘Any obstacle detected’ occurs when either sensor sees an obstacle or both sees an obstacle.

So if you use the “wait event” block and an obstacle is to the right of Edison, ‘Obstacle in front’ will keep waiting, but ‘Any obstacle detected’ and ‘Obstacles at right’ will move onto the next block.

if the obstacle is to the left of Edison, ‘Obstacle in front’ will keep waiting, but ‘Any obstacle detected’ and ‘Obstacles at left’ will move onto the next block.

if the obstacle is in front of Edison ‘Obstacle in front’, ‘Any obstacle detected’, ‘Obstacles at right’ and ‘Obstacles at left’ will move onto the next block.

Heads up

The Australian Federal Parliament has passed a law that extends goods and services tax (GST) to low value imports of physical goods imported by consumers from 1 July 2018.

This means that all customers purchasing Edison robots and accessories with an Australian shipping address must now pay GST. The GST will be automatically added to your purchase and show as a line item on your invoice.

We've detected that you are in Australia, so we wanted to let you know that we have changed your settings to view our Australian site, which displays GST inclusive pricing.
