I ordered 10 Edison robots and they arrived yesterday. I tested them today and only 4 of the 10 will read consistently read barcodes. The other 6 fail to read all barcodes except the sumo wrestle barcode. I’ve tried them in a couple of different rooms with different lighting and they still don’t work. I tried them with white paper underneath too. All 10 robots have new batteries in them.

I tried drive calibration on one of the robots with the problem – when I finally got it to read the drive calibration barcode (by taking the wheels off as suggested) it successfully ran the calibration, but still won’t scan any barcodes except sumo.

The problem robots work with EdScratch, they just won’t read barcodes.

Any ideas? Should I send them back to the supplier?

Hi Mark,

As per our emails, this was solved through a firmware update.

If anybody else has issues with their robots not reading a barcode please check the firmware of the robot you are using at:

Heads up

The Australian Federal Parliament has passed a law that extends goods and services tax (GST) to low value imports of physical goods imported by consumers from 1 July 2018.

This means that all customers purchasing Edison robots and accessories with an Australian shipping address must now pay GST. The GST will be automatically added to your purchase and show as a line item on your invoice.

We've detected that you are in Australia, so we wanted to let you know that we have changed your settings to view our Australian site, which displays GST inclusive pricing.
