Here’s my catapult program.

I have two issues:

1.  Sometimes it sticks at the top and won’t go back down when the circle button is pressed.  Any ideas how to fix this?

2.  Also, the distance isn’t very impressive.  If I used a single drive and let the other side swing freely, would that give it more power than the dual drive?

Thanks!

Hi

This is awesome!!

Would you mind if we shared this on our social media?

The program looks good, I can’t see any reason why it should be sticking at the top.

The distance the arm throws the projectile is limited by the speed the arm is moving and how the bucket holds the projectile.

Edison has limited speeds it can run, but adding a longer arm will cause the “tip speed” of the arm to be faster and should throw the projectile further. Additionally modifying the angle that the bucket releases the projectile can change the distance it travels, but that may be a trial and error problem

Thanks for looking it over. I wish I knew why it sticks.

I tweaked all the mechanical properties I could think of.  If I made the arm too long, the motor wasn’t strong enough to lift it quickly.  I admit I did not optimize it – I just needed a basic idea for class lesson.  I’m sure the students’ catapults will outperform mine!

You can share the video and I’ll post some from class when it starts next semester.

Heads up

The Australian Federal Parliament has passed a law that extends goods and services tax (GST) to low value imports of physical goods imported by consumers from 1 July 2018.

This means that all customers purchasing Edison robots and accessories with an Australian shipping address must now pay GST. The GST will be automatically added to your purchase and show as a line item on your invoice.

We've detected that you are in Australia, so we wanted to let you know that we have changed your settings to view our Australian site, which displays GST inclusive pricing.
