Having issues running a firmware update with Edison?
We want to help get you sorted straight away! If you haven’t already, be sure to enter your Edison robot’s serial number into our online firmware checker (you can find the serial number located on a sticker on the inside of the battery compartment. The serial number will look like one of these examples: Edison 2016H2-93559, Edison 2016C-81036, 1234567 12A) and follow the steps to update your robot’s firmware.
How to get Edison into firmware update mode
To run a firmware update on an Edison robot, you first need to get the Edison into firmware update mode. Do this by starting with the Edison turned off. Press and hold down the record (round) button while the Edison is off, then, keeping the button held down, turn the Edison on. Keep holding the record (round) button until the two red LED lights are stuck on. This means you are in ‘firmware update mode’ and you can now release the button and run the firmware update.
What to do if your robot is stuck in firmware mode
If a firmware update fails, Edison becomes stuck in firmware update mode. To fix this, you need to start a new download of the firmware. Before you do this, please ensure that:
- sound enhancements are disabled (including 3rd party ones such as Dell Audio, HP Sound, DTS, etc.),
- your volume is at maximum, and
- you have closed all programs or tabs that may make sounds (such as notification beeps) during the downloading process.
