Teaching without screens is possible with Edison! No logins, no devices, no fuss! Perfect for tech-limited settings where reliable internet isn’t available.
All versions of Edison robots can be programmed using Barcode programming. Barcode programming is a great place to get started with Edison which is why barcodes are included as an early activity in all of the Edison lesson plans. Using barcodes with Edison robots is one of the most unique and fun ways to use your robot.
Edison V3 robots can also be programmed using Card Coding. Using printable coding cards, students scan a sequence of cards to create programs and explore real coding logic. Great for pairs and small groups to work together.
Barcode Programming
The special Edison robot barcodes let you kick-start your exploration of Edison using pre-set programs such as clap-controlled driving, bounce in borders, or you can even control Edison like a remote-control car.
Each Edison robot comes with pre-set programs already loaded in the robot’s memory. To activate the program, you simply need to scan the correct barcode.
You can also find the barcodes on the free to download EdMat. Each EdMat includes the six pre-set barcode programs along with instructions plus ample test space for running the programs in your Edison robot!
Card Coding
Card Coding lets students program Edison V3 using printable barcode cards. Students can build real programs using sequences, loops, functions, and more! They’ll control sensors, lights, and sounds, all by scanning the coding cards, no screens required.
With Card Coding, students learn foundational computer science concepts such as sequencing, loops, decision-making, functions and sensors.
