My students are supposed to complete a rescue bot challenge where the Edisons follow a black line and identify people to rescue. The people are supposed to be represented with green dots. I can’t seem to figure out how to get Edison to indicate that it has detected a color besides black and white. Is this even possible? How?

In EdPy you can read the exact value that has been received from the line sensor.

Different colours will reflect different amounts of light giving different readings on the line sensor.

It is possible to determine how much light is being detected by using a program similar to:

Simply run the code, place Edison on the colour and read which light is active

then change the value in the if statement to get closer to the value, and repeat until you get closer to the value.

This will work for a given setup but the amount of reflected light will change if you change the location, the mat, the Edison or make a big change to the ambient light

Heads up

The Australian Federal Parliament has passed a law that extends goods and services tax (GST) to low value imports of physical goods imported by consumers from 1 July 2018.

This means that all customers purchasing Edison robots and accessories with an Australian shipping address must now pay GST. The GST will be automatically added to your purchase and show as a line item on your invoice.
